2025 Fall Fukuoka Sumo Tournament Photos

A colorful journey through Kyushu’s shrines, onsens, and sumo excitement

What an amazing week exploring Kyushu. From historic shrines to island views, warm onsen towns, and the excitement of live sumo, this tour was filled with memorable moments.

We visited Dazaifu Tenmangu, learned about Hakata’s local culture at Machiya Furusato Kan, and enjoyed the beautiful fall colors throughout the region. Our group took a scenic cruise through the island-dotted waters of Kujukushima, sampled local sake in Sasebo, and wandered the European-style streets of Huis Ten Bosch lit up in the evening. Nights around Hakata Station were a highlight as the seasonal illuminations lit up the entire area.

In Beppu, we visited the dramatic “hells” including Umi Jigoku with its striking blue pool, then relaxed at the Suginoi Hotel onsen. Yufuin offered a peaceful stroll through cafés and shops surrounded by autumn leaves before a visit to the Kokonoe Yume Suspension Bridge and the old town of Mameda Machi.

We wrapped up the tour with two thrilling days at the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament and a hearty chankonabe dinner. Swipe through the photos to relive the colors, culture, and fun from this incredible Kyushu adventure.
