Day 5, visiting Oshino Hakkai, a set of eight ponds located in the Fuji Five Lake Region.
Oshino Hakkai
The eight ponds are fed by melting snow from the nearby slopes of Mt. Fuji. The melted snow filtered down through porous layers of lava for 80 years, resulting in a very clear spring water that is revered by the locals.
We were able to drink the cool water straight from the source.
Tour members enjoyed some local food samplings including various flavors of delicious soft serve ice cream.
Lunch at Mugibatake was delicious. Buffet style and free local beer was a hit!
The next stop was a ‘Pirate Ship’ boat ride on Lake Ashi.
It was a one way trip across the Lake to get closer to our Hakone Hotel.
Everyone was all bundled in jackets and gloves, as it was very cool & windy on the cruise.
