Kanazawa’s Hyakumangoku Festival — See the impressive parade of warriors!
The Hyakumangoku Festival is Kanazawa’s grandest and most spirited celebration, honoring Maeda Toshiie, the founder of the Kaga Domain and the man who laid the city’s foundations. Its centerpiece, the Hyakumangoku Parade, surges from the east exit of Kanazawa Station to Kanazawa Castle, igniting the route with thunderous taiko drumming before an actor on horseback portraying Maeda Toshiie leads a dazzling procession of samurai, noblemen, and princesses in historic 16th-century costumes, alongside acrobatic displays by local firefighters. The spectacle ends in a burst of re-enactments and lion dancing at Kanazawa Castle, bringing the city’s history vividly to life.
